SASKATCHEWAN SOCIETY OF NUTRITION MANAGEMENT

Board of Directors
2023 - 2024

Karen Kwan NM
President

Karen Kwan is pleased to be serving as President on the SSNM board. In addition, she has been serving on the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Food and Nutrition Management and Health Care Cook Program Advisory Committee for the past three years.

Karen decided to enroll in the Food and Nutrition Management Program at Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) in 2006 after sparking interest from a nutrition class. While pursuing her diploma, Karen began a career in

food services and worked as a Food Services Worker at a long-term care facility within Saskatoon Health Region (SHR).

After graduating in 2008, Karen was offered employment as a Food Services Supervisor at two acute care sites. In 2010, Karen was given an opportunity to work in SHR Payroll Department as a Payroll and Benefits Officer, responsible for Leave of Absence and

Worker’s Compensation Board. Always having a strong passion for food, Karen decided to venture back into food services in 2012 and is currently the Assistant Manager of Nutrition and Food Services at Parkridge Centre, a 233-bed long term care facility in Saskatoon. Karen loves the work she does, finding it challenging, yet rewarding. Throughout the years, Karen has been given many learning opportunities through work to further her leadership skills. Karen is extremely thankful to the mentors who continue to motivate and strengthen her skills as a leader. In her spare time, she loves to travel and experience the culture and culinary flavours the world has to offer.

Stacey Ginter CNM
Past-President

I am Stacey Ginter and I am pleased to be serving as your SSNM Past-President for the 2023-2024 term.

SSNM is coming off a milestone year as we celebrated our 50th anniversary as an association. We are very proud to have remained a chapter while other provincial chapters have had to dissolve. We celebrated this milestone last year at the 2022 CSNM Conference which was held in Saskatoon in June. Hopefully many of you had the opportunity to attend this event. Myself and the conference team are proud of the quality education event we were able to offer our membership, either in person or virtually.

I am the Central Ordering Office Supervisor and I work out of Saskatoon City Hospital. I have been working in the Food and Nutrition industry for 35 years and have been a SSNM board member  for 13 of those years. I presently also sit on the CSNM Board of Directors as the Certification Manager. I find  both roles extremely rewarding and I would highly recommend our members to consider becoming a board member of either of these boards.

In my free time I love to spend time at our cabin at Struthers Lake with my husband Greg and our two fur babies Ellie and Cali. I have three grown step daughters and two grandsons who are 15 months and 10 years old.

I am currently in the position of secretary/membership on the SSNM board.  My past experience on the SSNM board was in the position of President (3 year term).

I work as a nutrition manager in Saskatchewan Health Authority.  Over the past 25 years I have had the pleasure of working as a nutrition manager in acute care and long term care in Saskatoon.

I’m looking forward to working with the SSNM Board of Directors for the next 2 year term.  I would encourage you to consider letting your name stand during the next election for SSNM board positions, it’s a great opportunity for you to influence the future direction of SSNM.

SSNM Communications Chairperson Laurette St. Jacques

Hello all! I have been a part of the SSNM Board for 18 years in a few different roles; including Secretary/Membership, Conference Co-chair and Communications/Newsletter.

My food service journey began in 1992 when I graduated from Professional Cooking at SIAST, Palliser Campus (SaskPolyTech). It was during my time as a pastry cook at the Saskatoon Inn that I went back to school for the FNM course at SIAST, Kelsey Campus (SaskPolyTech). I started to work at Saskatoon City Hospital as a food service worker, diet clerk, and recon. cook. Once I completed the FNM course in 2004, I worked as a supervisor in the Saskatoon Health Region at the 3 hospitals.

Our family moved to Quebec in 2009 and returned to Saskatchewan 2 years later now residing in Moose Jaw. I was working as a food service worker in the Five Hills Health Region and then I went on to be a food service supervisor in the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region for 8 years. In 2021, I became the Manager of Nutrition and Food (SW6) in rural south.

Being a part of the SSNM has been very fulfilling. Now is a great time to become a member or better yet, a Board Member.
